Attorneys
Before being authorized to practice law in Switzerland, attorneys have to complete lengthy university studies and on-the-job training, and they must also pass a very demanding examination. Subsequent further training qualifies many of them as recognized specialists in their fields.
Expertise, Quality, Independence
Attorneys are also pleased to advise on the increasingly complex products in the financial sector, and they are often consulted regarding cross-border transactions. They are required by law to exercise care and diligence when practicing their profession. The high quality of their services is guaranteed by stringent governmental supervision and – for members of the Zurich Bar Association – self-regulation.
Attorney-Client Privilege and Trust
Attorneys are independent and are obliged to defend the interests of their clients. The attorney's position of trust is protected by law: Clients can divulge literally everything to their attorneys. Attorneys are subject to professional secrecy for an unlimited duration vis-à-vis all parties (including the courts and other authorities). This professional secrecy applies to all information entrusted to them – an essential prerequisite for the best possible advice and representation.
The Zurich Bar – A Network of Excellence
The majority of independent attorneys practicing in Canton Zurich are members of the Zurich Bar Association. This ensures the high quality of the legal work that they undertake. They offer the entire spectrum of services as regards forward-looking advice on all legal matters as well as legal representation in proceedings. A directory is available on the Association's website: www.zav.ch. Many Zurich attorneys work both nationally and internationally, and they maintain relations with companies in the financial sector as well as law offices in other cantons and countries.
